November - Hockey Hockey Hockey

The month of November has come and gone in a palette of silvers and blues. I wrapped up the month working with PacificSport Columbia Basin on a significant funding application. James and I put together a really quality proposal. Lots of hours and lots of work, but I think we are both really proud of what was submitted. And when you are submitting a grant, the best you can do is the best you can do. Help from an outside source gives you additional resources, expertise and an extra set of eyes. When a grant is done, I blow it a little kiss and send it on its way.

I have been busy planning two workshops which will launch in the New Year - Finding Grants and Getting Them, and Maximizing ChatGPT - aka. Your Business Best Friend. Stay tuned for more details. I’ve also articulated my non-profit offerings, and even started working with my first client through the Columbia Basin Trust’s Advisors Program.

The most exciting part of the month was participating with The Forum e-series - what an exceptional program. E-Series is an intensive program for self-identified women entrepreneurs that want an all-encompassing education in business and entrepreneurship. My cohort is over 300 exceptional female entrepreneurs and business owners across Canada. In November we covered 4 of 6 full day sessions learning about everything from operations and business foundations to marketing and sales, accounting and legalities like incorporation, business structures and employment law. Through E-Series I have connected with some incredible women. Leading to new working relationships around grants and funding strategies.

This month I worked with Kristen O’Keefe and Diane Rudge operate The Den Refillery in Ucluelet - they are leading the eco-tourism industry on Vancouver Island through their Sustainable & Circular Accommodation Program and have converted over 80 establishments to establish zero-waste systems and switch to utilizing ocean-friendly, refillable and biodegradable products in all our partner's accommodations. This is in addition to soon to be two retail stores selling their hand-crafted, non-toxic line of beautify and household products. Check out my testimonials page to see what they had to say about the experience of working with me.

I caught up with Zarrah Uy who launched an affirmation app - Avra Core as part of a social purpose mission around positive self-talk. I am using the app daily to send myself messages of encouragement and support. I have established my own personal cheering squad!

And speaking of cheering squads - this month I whooped and hollered at hockey arenas across the Kootenays and even one game in the US, to cheer on both of my sons as they played goal. The highlight for me was last Sunday when each played with the ‘C’ on their chest. Goalies aren’t normally appointed as Captains on the ice. Goal is a challenging position where you bear a tremendous amount of responsibility and accountability. But responsibility and accountability are core values in our family. And I couldn’t be more proud of my kids.

And hockey families, the Kruger Big Assist Award is donating $25,000 to 5 hockey associations across Canada, with the grand prize winner being awarded an additional $75,000! If you need help with your application, reach out to me at kayre@kootenayconnex.ca  Here’s to December!
